WWF-UK is the British arm of the World Wide Fund for Nature, one of the world’s largest independent conservation organisations, headquartered in Woking, England. Greenpeace International is the coordinating body of the global Greenpeace environmental campaigning network, headquartered in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The movement was founded in 1971 in Vancouver, Canada, and operates through independent national and regional offices worldwide. It campaigns on climate change, biodiversity, forests, oceans and toxic-free futures, relying on individual donations to maintain independence.

Save the Children is an international humanitarian organisation for children, founded in 1919 by Eglantyne Jebb in the United Kingdom, with its US member organisation headquartered in Fairfield, Connecticut. It works in around 115 countries to improve children’s health, education, protection and emergency response, aligning its work with children’s rights and the UN SDGs.

The Nature Conservancy (TNC) is a global environmental non-profit working to conserve the lands and waters on which all life depends. Founded in 1951 and headquartered in Arlington, Virginia, it operates in 81 countries and territories and all 50 U.S. states, pursuing science-based conservation, climate action and biodiversity protection.

UNICEF, the United Nations Children’s Fund, works in more than 190 countries and territories to protect the rights and improve the lives of children and young people. Its programmes span health, nutrition, education, child protection, water and sanitation, and humanitarian response, funded by voluntary contributions from governments, the private sector and individuals.

Oxfam America is the United States affiliate of the Oxfam confederation, a global movement of people working to end the injustice of poverty. It delivers humanitarian aid and long-term development programmes and campaigns on economic justice, gender justice, climate action and workers’ rights. Headquartered in Boston, it partners with local organisations in dozens of countries.

Die direkte Übersetzung von “Corporate Social Responsibility” (kurz CSR) lautet “Soziale Verantwortung des Unternehmens”, wobei sich die inhaltliche Bedeutung nicht allein auf soziale, sondern auf gesellschaftliche Themen bezieht. CSR ist also die gesellschaftliche Verantwortung von Unternehmen für nachhaltiges Handeln.  Die Themenbereiche des CSR lassen sich in drei Aspekte untergliedern: ökonomisches Handeln ökologisches Handeln und soziales Handeln. Unternehmerische Gesellschaftsverantwortung bedeutet also durch nachhaltiges Handeln, einen Beitrag zur globalen Nachhaltigkeit zu leisten. Das nachhaltige Handeln bezieht sich auf alle Bereiche des Kerngeschäfts, nicht auf Engagement, das zusätzlich zur eigentlichen Tätigkeit des Unternehmens erbracht wird.
